Spring is in the details

 This picture made me smile.

Back when Bittersweet was just beginning, I spent my days sewing what I’ve always called useful essentials—Market Bags like this one, wide leg pants, peasant tops, aprons… pieces meant to be worn, used, and loved. Those really were special days.

These are special days too—just in a different way.

If you’ve ever sewn, you know it’s not a quick process. It takes time, intention, and patience. As Bittersweet has grown—with soap making and skincare taking center stage—creating sewn pieces to offer in the shop simply isn’t practical anymore. It’s a lovely idea… just not a realistic one for this season.

That said, I’ve recently found myself drawn back to fabric and patterns again—this time for personal use. It’s hard to find textiles that feel just right, so I decided to make my own. There’s something satisfying about choosing the fabric, the feel, the design… creating exactly what you want.

Which brings me back to the Market Bag.

I’ve been toying with the idea of bringing it back—this time in linen instead of burlap. It would be beautiful. But linen isn’t inexpensive, and the time it takes to sew each piece makes pricing a challenge. Still… it’s a thought I keep coming back to.

Spring is finally starting to feel like Spring. The back-and-forth temperatures can make your head spin, but the warmer days are a welcome gift.

And, of course, it’s tax season. If you own a business, you understand—just part of the rhythm of it all. Death and taxes, as they say… and I can certainly relate.

The ups and downs of owning your own business are individual for each person. I've worked for so long for myself that I take the good, the bad, and the ugly all at once, and have learned to appreciate the little moments in time that prove to share their blessings.

I hope that you're taking time to enjoy those little moments. One day they'll be the biggest moments!
